Dermal Filler

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a non-surgical medical treatment that is injected into the skin to correct the associated signs of aging seen with the appearance of lines, wrinkles and creases. It is a gel like substance (hyaluronic acid) that is naturally produced in the body and then injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, soften creases or enhance facial contours.

Tear troughs - Replace volume loss, reduce shadowing and 'bags', look less 'tired', medial to lateral trough

FAQ's

Will I look overdone/unnatural?

The general goal is to restore a youthful appearance, not to look unnatural. The goal is to look like a refreshed version of yourself.

How long do they last?

The lifespan of filler depends on the type, where it is injected, and how quickly the person metabolizes the product. In an area like the lips, the average patient will need to come back in 6-9 months since there is a lot of movement in that area. Most fillers last 6-12 months but some can last up to 2 years.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

The idea can seem scary to many patients, due to a fear of pain resulting from the injections. Many fillers contain lidocaine, a mild anesthetic that helps minimize pain during and after treatment.  Some patients do report mild discomfort during treatment. This depends on the area being treated and how much filler is used.

Do fillers have side effects?
As with any treatment, facial fillers have the potential for side effects. However, the side effects are typically mild and resolve within the first few hours or days following treatment. They include: bruising, bleeding, swelling, lumps or bumps, itching.

When will I see results?
Dermal fillers are instant, so you can see a visible result immediately after injections. Filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. Many patients achieve the full effect within 2 weeks after receiving their injections.
